Tybee Adventure

I attended College of Charleston in South Carolina and one of my roomies introduced me to Tybee Island. We hated to miss you Jennifer!!! It is a small beach community outside of Savannah, GA. Bri and I have been back a few times as well as a few girl's weekends with Mom and Lauren/Leila. We love Tybee because it isn't as commercialized as other beaches and the beach is beautiful! We decided to take a long weekend and introduce Belle to Tybee. We were a little concerned since it is about a six hour drive, but Belle did great! Once we were settled in the room we set up her little "tent" pack-in-play and she gave Daddy a few quick smiles before she fell asleep!

The next day we woke up and enjoyed a long walk on the beach where Belle met her first crab and saw the pretty dunes and lighthouse.  It was already steaming so after our walk we headed for a dip in the pool before nap time!

Since it was a warm day Mommy and Daddy alternated time outside so one of us could be inside while Belle napped and played.  I know she isn't old enough to play with beach toys, but I still had to buy her some ;).  She enjoyed digging the carpet and playing with them inside.  As Brian said, new toys!

Belle seemed a little fussy on Friday afternoon and I thought it was due to her "first" tooth trying to come through, but then I noticed that the white on her tongue had spread to her cheeks!  Ugh--the thrush was back!  My pediatrician had told us not to worry about it unless it spread to the cheeks.  At this time it was 4:15pm on Friday and first time Mommy panic began to sink in!  How was I going to get her medicine on Tybee Island at 4:15pm on a FRIDAY!!!  I called the nurse hotline at our doctor's office and explained the situation.  She talked to our doctor and they called Belle and I a prescription in at the ONLY pharmacy located on Tybee Island!  All in a matter of 30 minutes!!!  We LOVE our pediatrician ;).  The pharmacy was so cute and helpful.  They even had ties to NC, with the pharmacist's son just graduating from Elon.  For those of you that ever travel to Tybee, we highly recommend Island Pharmacy!!  After we were able to medicate we decided to stop by a local seafood market and cook our own seafood!  So yummy-we steamed oysters, scallops, clams and shrimp for dinner and watch the beautiful sunset and numerous dolphins.  A perfect ending to an overall great day!

On Saturday, we decided to let Belle explore the beach.  We celebrated her 9 month birthday!!!  I will add a few milestones into this post-clapping hands and waving are our newest tricks!

Wow, I didn't realize that you had to basically move an entire house to take a baby to the beach.  I think everyone was staring at us as we carried chairs, tent, cooler, toys, diaper bag, blanket and baby down to the beach.  I think Belle really like the beach (it was her second visit-first in Florida)--first trip since she has been mobile.  She kept getting mad at me because I wouldn't let her shovel fist fulls of sand in her mouth.  Brian finally told me to just let her try a little bit.  When I wouldn't let her continue eating she had enough of the beach!

Brian and I again traded time on the beach/pool while the other hung out with Belle inside.  After her afternoon nap we headed out for an early dinner, yes you eat at 5:15pm once you have a baby!  Belle loved flirting with all the wait staff and of course everyone LOVED her as well.  We stopped by the Sugar Shack for some yummy ice cream after dinner.

We decide to wrap up our last night at the beach with a walk on the beach during sunset.  Carrying the Bob down the stairs with a little cooler of water and diaper bag plus a baby is a little stressful.  Thank goodness there are two parents!  More on that in a minute.  We enjoyed taking a few pictures of our beach baby!  I took a few of Brian and Belle with their back turned to me. Yes I am obsessed with how adorable they are so excuse the numerous pics!  Too bad we couldn't get her to sit still long enough to get more adorable shots of her in the sand.  Maybe in July? Haha she will be even more mobile then!

After our walk we decide to sit and chat by the pool for a bit before heading up to the room.  All of a sudden I noticed that I didn't have the condo key!  I remembered putting it in the diaper bag as we were lugging things down to the beach.  I remembered I didn't zip the outside pocket!  No key, no cell phone and past Belle's bedtime.  After spending a while trying to locate the key I knew it was lost!  If we just didn't have so much to take with us for some simple pictures, right?!!  I met some really nice people from Statesville, NC that had their computer and cell phone outside with them.  I was able to look up the rental emergency number and use their cell to call.  The guy was super nice and was to the condos in around 10 minutes with a key.  Whew!  So one pharmacy trip and a lost key for our first weekend traveling without  extended family wasn't too bad!  I am sure we will have more adventurous stories to share from other trips this summer!  Off to unpack and get ready for our CRAZY week!
